KARACHI - The United Kingdom has announced a new visa policy for students seeking admission to educational institutions in UK.
As per the new policy, announced by UK Regional Manager for Visas and Immigration Mandy Ivemy, it would take three weeks to process a study visa application. Ivemy offered some ‘top tips’ to students thinking about applying for a UK student visa at a news conference here.
She said the UK and Pakistan shared a long history and had strong culture and family connections. There were over 1.4 million journeys between the UK and Pakistan each year. UK Visas and Immigration considers applications for permission to enter the United Kingdom through our visa services around the world. “We apply the same Immigration Rules in every country, and charge the same visa application fees, which are set in our Parliament,” she pointed out.
Ivemy said the UK home secretary announced that the Home Office would considerably increase the number of interviews in the 2013/14 financial year. She added that “we aim to interview over 100,000 visa applicants globally in 2013/14 financial year”. She said in 2012, UK Visas and Immigration issued 11,000 visas out of 16,000 student applications received from Pakistanis.
She warned against submission of fake documents, saying students rejected in previous years were because of the submission of fake documents. “Those found with fake documents would be banned from visiting the UK for up to ten years,” she said. All the information is available on the website of UK Visas and Immigration. This information includes a list of approved educational institutions.
According to Ivemy, one of the requirements for a UK student visa is for a certain sum must be on the bank account for 28 days prior to submission of a visa application. The rules are strictly enforced. If the funding has only been in place for 26 days, the application would be refused.
Some applicants use visa agents to help apply for a visa. Many of these agents offer good advice and are helpful for certain individuals. But all of the information one needs is also on the website, free of charge.
Ivemy said all Pakistani student visa applicants would be interviewed by an officer based in the UK, through videoconference, at the visa application centre when they lodge their applications. In addition, applicants may be invited for a further interview at the British High Commission to check whether they qualify for visas.
