Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive of Universities UK, said: “Open access is essential to promoting the public profile and impact of research. There is increasing recognition and support for the principle of open access, and it is important that the UK continues to lead on this issue.

“Good progress has been made in taking forward the proposals set out in the Finch report. Universities UK supports the broad direction of travel, and also the responses from the UK government, Research Councils UK (RCUK), the UK funding councils and others.

“This review includes recommendations on how momentum can be sustained. Universities UK will be pleased to take on the co-ordinating role proposed in the report, and thereby contribute to this important agenda.”
